What counts as a NAS hard drive here?
A new, 3.5-inch SATA drive with conventional magnetic recording from a NAS or enterprise family: IronWolf, IronWolf Pro, WD Red Plus and Pro, Exos, Ultrastar, Toshiba N300 and MG. SMR and surveillance drives are excluded.
Are recertified drives cheaper?
Usually by a large margin per terabyte, with a shorter warranty. They have their own page, because mixing them into new-drive verdicts would make every new drive look expensive.
Is now a good time to buy NAS drives?
Prices have risen through 2026 on AI datacenter demand. A drive at our tracked low today is about as cheap as this year has been; whether Black Friday on 27 November beats it is uncertain.
