Synology's 2025 desktop Plus line is six models in two families. The DS225+ and DS425+ keep the Intel Celeron J4125 with 2GB of non-ECC memory and a 6GB limit. The DS725+, DS925+, DS1525+ and DS1825+ use AMD Ryzen processors with ECC memory that expands to 32GB. All six have 2.5GbE, all carry a three-year warranty, and all fall under the same drive policy: third-party hard drives are supported on DSM 7.3, unlisted M.2 drives are not.

Where the figures come from
Every cell is from the model's specification page on synology.com, read on October 12, 2026. Synology's pages for these models name the processor but not its core count, so core counts are not listed here. Power and noise are Synology's own test figures with all bays populated.

The line splits in two at the DS725+
Below it, the DS225+ and DS425+ are file servers on an older Intel chip. Their memory tops out at 6GB through one slot, which is enough for file sharing, backups and a few light packages, and not for virtual machines.
From the DS725+ up, every model has an AMD Ryzen processor, ECC memory in two slots up to 32GB, and an expansion port for DX525 units. That is the half of the line to buy if the NAS will run containers or virtual machines, or if you expect to add bays.
Which model for which job
| Use case | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Two drives, files and backups | DS225+ | The cheapest way into the line; no M.2 slots. |
| Four drives on a budget | DS425+ | Four bays and two M.2 slots on the Celeron platform. |
| Two drives now, more later | DS725+ | Ryzen and ECC in a two-bay that grows to seven with a DX525. |
| Four drives with headroom | DS925+ | Ryzen V1500B, 32GB ceiling, two 2.5GbE ports, nine bays with a DX525. |
| Five to fifteen drives | DS1525+ | 8GB fitted and a network upgrade slot. |
| Eight to eighteen drives | DS1825+ | The only model in the line with a PCIe slot. |
One policy for all six
Each of these is a 2025 model, so each follows Synology's 2025 drive policy. On DSM 7.3 that means third-party hard drives and 2.5-inch SATA SSDs are supported for storage pools, and an M.2 NVMe drive must be on Synology's compatibility list to create a cache or a pool. The DS225+ has no M.2 slots, so only the first half applies to it.

Frequently asked questions
Which Synology 2025 Plus models have ECC memory?
The DS725+, DS925+, DS1525+ and DS1825+ ship with DDR4 ECC SO-DIMM memory. The DS225+ and DS425+ ship with 2GB of non-ECC DDR4.
Which 2025 Plus models can be expanded?
The DS725+ to seven bays and the DS925+ to nine with one DX525; the DS1525+ to fifteen and the DS1825+ to eighteen with two. The DS225+ and DS425+ list no expansion unit.
Do any 2025 Plus models have 10GbE built in?
No. Every model has 2.5GbE as its fastest built-in port. The DS1525+ lists a network upgrade slot and the DS1825+ a PCIe slot; check Synology's compatibility list for the card your model accepts.
Can all six use third-party hard drives?
Yes, on DSM 7.3 or later. Synology still recommends drives from its compatibility list.
Which is the best value?
It depends on the price on the day, which the live table shows. By capability, the DS925+ is the first four-bay with the Ryzen platform and a 32GB memory ceiling, and the DS425+ is the cheaper four-bay on the Celeron platform.
