CMR, workload, noise and rebuilds

CMR writes tracks independently and is the appropriate technology for parity arrays. SMR can suffer long sustained rewrites and difficult rebuild behavior. Workload ratings are not failure predictions; they describe the vendor's intended annual activity envelope and help separate quiet home drives from heavier enterprise duty.

A six-drive rebuild reads a large amount of data while the pool is degraded. RAID 6 protects against a second disk failure during that window, but it does not replace backups. Monitor health, keep a tested spare strategy and avoid mixing unknown used drives into a new primary array.

Keep NVMe and HDD recommendations separate

HDDs optimize capacity and $/TB; NVMe optimizes latency and throughput. Put container databases, embeddings, thumbnails and active model caches on an SSD volume when UGOS supports the intended layout, then back that data to HDD. Comparing NVMe and HDD on one price-per-terabyte leaderboard would hide the reason to buy either.

Check UGREEN's exact M.2 compatibility entry, cooling requirement and supported volume/cache role. A consumer NVMe that fits electrically is not automatically manufacturer-validated for a 24/7 write-heavy service.
