TOS 7 is TerraMaster's current NAS operating system; TerraMaster's page marks it as available, dated June 2026. By TerraMaster's own list it adds virtual machines, a developer mode with root access, online editing of Office files, a unified recycle bin, global search, ISO mounting and a speed limit per network port, on a kernel it gives as version 6.1.2.41. TerraMaster also describes it as built around natural-language control, which is its claim and is not tested here.

TRAID and TRAID+, the array types TOS adds to classic RAID
| TRAID | TRAID+ | |
|---|---|---|
| Introduced in | TOS 5 | TOS 6 |
| Drives it survives losing | One | Two |
| Fewest drives | One, with no protection; two for protection | Four |
| How it is built | Drives are divided into smaller partitions that are recombined with redundancy | The same partitioning, on RAID 6 principles |
| Growing it | Replace a drive with a larger one, or add a drive at least as large as the smallest in the array | Reached by migrating from TRAID once three or more drives are present |
Two limits TerraMaster states
An array created as TRAID cannot be converted to a traditional type. TerraMaster's guidance is to pick a traditional type at the start, such as Single, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6 or RAID 10, if you want to manage the array type yourself; otherwise the array has to be deleted and recreated.
A drive added to a TRAID array, or used to move it to TRAID+, has to be at least as large as the smallest drive already in it.
What the page claims, and what it leaves out
TerraMaster's page carries claims this site has not tested and does not repeat as fact: that TOS 7 is the first NAS system of its kind for AI use, and several percentage gains for search, file handling and permission management. They are listed here only so you know they are the maker's.
The page does not list which TerraMaster models receive TOS 7, and it gives no usable-capacity formula for TRAID. Neither is stated here.

Frequently asked questions
Does TOS 7 run virtual machines?
Yes. TerraMaster lists VM deployment and management as new in TOS 7.
What is the difference between TRAID and TRAID+?
TRAID survives one drive failing and can start from a single drive. TRAID+ survives two, follows RAID 6 principles and needs at least four drives.
Can a TRAID array be changed to RAID 5 later?
No. TerraMaster states that a TRAID array cannot be converted to a traditional type without deleting and recreating it.
Does TOS 7 give root access?
Yes, in its developer mode. TerraMaster describes full root access and installing packages from Ubuntu's repository with apt.
