MG is Toshiba's enterprise hard drive family, and the number after MG is the series: it runs from the MG04, at up to 4TB, to the MG11, at up to 24TB. Toshiba marks every series up to the 20TB MG10 as CMR and gives them a 7200 rpm spindle; its listing for the 22TB MG10F and the 24TB MG11 carries no recording mark. The series from MG07 up are helium drives with an MTTF of 2.5 million hours and a typical idle draw a little over 4W.

| MG10 | 16, 18, 20TB | CMR | SAS or SATA | 512 MiB | 4.18W (16TB, 18TB), 4.38W (20TB) | 2,500,000 hours |
| MG09 | 16, 18TB | CMR | SAS or SATA | 512 MiB | 4.16W SATA | 2,500,000 hours, 0.35% AFR |

Three things the listing title will not tell you clearly
Which series it is. Sellers often title a drive "MG Series" with only a capacity. A 16TB MG could be an MG08, MG09 or MG10, and Toshiba's figures for those differ in buffer size and idle power, so look for the full model number in the listing before comparing.
Whether it is SATA or SAS. Toshiba makes most MG series in both. A desktop NAS takes SATA, and a SAS drive will not work in a SATA-only bay. The table above holds SATA listings only.
Whether the recording type is confirmed. For the MG10F and MG11, Toshiba's list gives a capacity and an interface and nothing more. From 22TB up this site ranks a drive only when its maker states CMR, so a 22TB or 24TB MG drive is shown in the labelled section under the table and not in it.
What Toshiba does not publish on these pages
Toshiba's two series lists give no workload rating and no warranty term for the MG family. Listing titles often quote 550TB a year; that figure is the seller's wording and is not repeated here as Toshiba's.
Where the figures come from
Toshiba's Cloud-Scale Capacity and Enterprise Capacity pages, read on October 12, 2026. "Not listed" means the page shows no figure for that series; "Not marked" means the entry carries no recording label.
