Only 13 of the 32 NAS models recorded here have a noise figure on their maker's specification page, so only those can be compared at all. The lowest is the Asustor Lockerstor 4 Gen2+ at 17.6 dB with drives idle, and the highest the Synology DS1825+ at 23.8 dB(A). The makers do not test alike: some measure with drives idle, some with drives in standby, and they state different drive counts, so figures from different brands are not a like-for-like ranking. And in any NAS with hard drives, the drives are part of what you hear.

Reading the figures
Compare within a brand first. One maker's models are the closest to like for like; the order across brands is a rough guide at best.
Check the condition in the figure. "Drives in standby" and "drives idle" are quieter states than a NAS at work, and a figure quoted with two drives fitted says less about a four-bay unit that is full.
The drives add their own noise on top. Drive noise by model number is on its own page, from the drive makers' sheets.

Where the figures come from
Each row is from the maker's own specification page for the model, read on October 12, 2026. A model is ranked only if its maker's page gives a figure; none is taken from a review or a retailer.
